Secret Sweet Temptation
Would you read ” Her and Him and I “?

He succumbed to soft temptation
she was shy of sixteen sweet
though his head held hesitation
was his heart would not retreat

They would sneak to secret places
where no probing eyes could pry
he would wonder in her graces
‘neath a twinkled twilight sky

keeping care to share a silence
they desired to be discreet
for her father fancied violence
worked on whiskey in the street

Often secrets get to speaking
stories spread like fire flies
all was told of sin and sneaking
He would go without goodbyes

Her poppa swore to hunt his hide
beer and bourbon on his breathe
He found him trying to thumb a ride
swiftly beat his bones to death

That’s the story she had spoken
of her passion pure and wild
she would die destroyed and broken
I would be their only child

Sweetly spoken assurances
from i6 year-old lovers
turn into dark secrets
and when a child discovers
origins disgraced
displacement occurs, in any case
whether his and hers
or those and mine and yours…
I have heard the horrors
of a thousand such as these
but we can shine and twinkle
whenever we please,
distanced from the very things
that conceived us, and in the end
we are not so different,
my angry poet-friend.
